As someone who loves a clean home, I know the pain of spilling something on the carpet, especially which can leave a stain.
Cleaning carpet stains is laborious, but what if I tell you there’s a simple, effective method? Yes, let me walk you through a carpet cleaning method that doesn’t require expensive cleaners or professional help.
Here’s my quick guide on “how I remove carpet stains with just an iron,” a technique that saves me time, energy, and money.
How I Learned to Remove Carpet Stains with My Iron?
It all started when I accidentally spilled a glass of red wine on my white and beige carpet. Before I could do anything, the red color of wine settled in, leading me to panic. This made me find solutions right away and that’s how I got the idea of using an iron to lift stains.
Things You Will Need
To get started, gather all of these essentials:
- A clean white cloth or towel
- Water
- A spray bottle
- An iron
- Dish soap (optional if you have stubborn stains)
- White Vinegar
Remove Carpet Stains with Iron: Step-By-Step Guide
Follow these steps in the correct order to get better results:
Step 1: Blot/ Cover the Stain
As soon as you spill something on your carpet, grab some tissue papers and blot (cover) the stain. Being quick with this step is crucial to soak up as much of the liquid as possible, thus reducing the intensity of the stain. However, avoid rubbing, as it can push the stain deeper into the carpet fibres.
Step 2: Soak the Stain
Take a spray bottle and spray clean water over the stained area. As you will dampen the stain, the moisture will help loosen it from the carpet’s fabric.
For stubborn stains, you can add a few drops of dish soap to the water or use slightly lukewarm water.
Or, for non-colored carpets, you can also use vinegar solution.
Step 3: Place the Cloth over the Stain
Lay a clean white towel/ cloth over the wet/damp stain. This step is important before we start using the iron to remove carpet stains. The white towel/ cloth will draw the stain up, so use something that you can afford to ruin.
Step 4: Use the Iron
Set the iron at medium to high heat (with no steam). Gently press the iron onto the cloth for about 10-15 seconds, moving it back and forth. Please do not leave the iron on the carpet for too long, or it will end up damaging the fiber.
As I iron over the cloth, I can usually see the stain transferring from the carpet to the towel. Keep on moving the white towel/cloth for a clean surface to soak in more stains.
How does it work? The combination of heat and moisture from the iron loosens the stain, allowing it to be absorbed into the cloth.
However, this hack will work on fresh carpet stains. For old stains or tough ones, it might take several attempts with less-than-perfect results.
